What’s The Best Cat Food For Sensitive Stomachs?

What’s the Best Cat Food For Sensitive Stomachs?

After many years of searching, I have found the best cat food for my tabby’s sensitive stomach. It is the only cat food my cat could start eating with little to no transition and have absolutely no problems! I love Solid Gold brand in general but if you are wondering what’s the best cat food for a sensitive stomach, I can’t recommend anything more highly than Solid Gold Winged Tiger cat food.

Many Cats Throw Up

Most cats will throw up and have diarrhea when they are switched to a new variety of cat food unless the transition is made very slowly over multiple days. If you have a cat with food sensitivities it can be almost impossible to find a food that doesn’t give them these symptoms. This can be very difficult as you want to see your cat healthy and happy, not throwing up all their food! You will need to take your cat to the vet for repeated throwing up or diarrhea to rule out something more serious. For most cats, like mine, they check out fine at the vet but they still have problems.

What Can You Do To Fix It and Help Your Cat?

So what can you do? How can you help your cat who is prone to throwing up or diarrhea? There are many factors to consider but one major factor is the variety of food they are eating. Your cat could have food allergies or intolerances. If that is the case you may have to try different foods to determine which ones your cat will do well on. I have found the Solid Gold brand of cat food offers a great variety of dry and wet cat foods. For this post I will just focus specifically the dry Winged Tiger variety.

The Only Food That My Cat Didn’t Throw Up!!

I have fed Solid Gold brand dry cat food to all of my cats for years now. It is the only food that I have found that meets all of their needs. It has great ingredients and is full of superfoods. My cats all LOVE it and most importantly it works for my orange, tabby boy who has a sensitive stomach. I have fed Solid Gold for years but just recently tried the Winged Tiger Quail and Pumpkin variety. I was shocked. It was the first time ever that my sensitive boy did not throw up when I switched foods!

I happened to run very low on his usual variety and couldn’t find it in the store. I decided to try another Solid Gold variety since they are always superior, and just hoped for the best even though I didn’t have much food left for a slow transition. I had to mix the food 50/50 but all of my cats handled it just fine. By the next day they were eating the new Winged Tiger food exclusively and none of them had any issues at all! This is amazing and I have never seen this before!

Sensitive Stomach and Weight Control Combined

I previously recommended other Solid Gold varieties for a sensitive stomach but experiencing this, I now recommend this variety above all others for digestion. A good option for weight control that is still easier on their sensitive tummies than other foods, is the variety we normally feed our kitties called Fit as a Fiddle which is also by Solid Gold. It is made with Alaskan Pollock and is also grain-free.

Food Allergies and Intolerance

If you want more information about cat food allergies and intolorances that can cause reactions such as throwing up and diarrhea, please see my post about it here where I recommend Solid Gold brand. I also have an over-the-counter treatment for cat vomiting that I use and my vet recommends, reviewed here, Remedy Cat Vomiting along with suggestions for cat grass/wheat grass which most all cats seem to love. You can buy this over-the-counter remedy at any grocery or convenience store or online and get your cat some relief today! As always, see your vet to make sure there is not a more serious problem.

Benefits of Solid Gold Winged Tiger Dry Cat Food

Winged Tiger food is grain-free which is very good for cats. They would not eat any grains naturally. Grains contribute to many health problems for cats as well as weight gain. I would always choose a grain-free cat food if possible and I am thrilled that my favorite varieties of Solid Gold cat foods are grain free!

Winged Tiger cat food has 20 superfood ingredients just like all the Solid Gold foods. Some of these superfoods include:

Blueberry,

Cranberry,

Pumpkin,

Salmon Oil,

Kelp,

Parsley,

Beets,

And many more great ingredients!

What Winged Tiger Food Did For My Cat

Winged Tiger has quail and extra pumpkin for high quality protein and fiber. Pumpkin is often recommended as a digestive aid for cats. It seems to work! Winged Tiger is the only food that did not give my cat diarrhea upon switching brands. He also threw up less. He still needs an over the counter treatment for acid indigestion which you can read about here: Remedy for Cat Vomiting.

If you want the best cat food I have found after years of searching, and wonder what’s the best cat food for a sensitive stomach, I absolutely recommend Winged Tiger cat food!

Please let me know what you think of Solid Gold cat foods. What is your cat’s favorite variety? Any questions and comments are welcome!

Our cat is almost 2 years old. For the past month, we have been in the process of switching him over from a kitten cat food formula to an “adult” cat food. This has been quite a process and we have tried a couple of different varieties. First of all, he is not really taking to the new food. One of them he tried and did throw up, the others he just sniffs and won’t try it. I am a little concerned because he won’t really eat any of his dry food right now. I don’t know if this is a sensitive stomach issue or just a picky issue. What are your thoughts? We have been giving him his kitten food, just so he will eat something in the meantime. I definitely want to give the Solid Gold Winged Tiger a try. Thankfully he still catches and eats a bird now and then. Thank you for sharing, hopefully, this cat food will work!

      Hi Steve,

I only adopt adult cats so I have not had a kitten (since I was a little kid at least). Therefore, I can’t guarantee anything, but Solid Gold foods get very high ratings and positive reviews. I have read many where people said their picky cats like it and won’t eat anything else. Solid Gold makes varieties for kittens also. If you click on any of my links in the post you will be taken to Amazon and can look at the other varieties of Solid Gold available. There are senior, kitten, grain-free, weight control, high protein and of course many varieties for adult cats. I would try either a kitten variety or the Winged Tiger to start with. There is a kitten variety called “Touch of Heaven” and a variety made for kittens and adults called “Katz-N-Flocken”.

They also make wet canned foods.

Let me know how it goes!I would love to hear about it.

Thanks for the advice Jessica. My inlaws have a cat which throws up now and again. They’ve tried to put it on a more expensive brand, (don’t know what it’s called), and it still throws up. I didn’t think that it could be allergies or intolerances.

You said to try the new food slow. How would I go about that? Just a snack to start with or the odd meal now and then?

I’ll have to check with my inlaws anyway and see what they feed the cat. And then I will recommend this winged tiger product.

    Thank you again,
    Owain

      Hello Owain,

You always want to mix a new cat food into the existing food slowly. Start with just a little of the new mixed into the old. Then the next day mix a larger amount in. Over the course of several days you increase the proportion of new food to old until they are on the new food entirely.

I get a little lazy with that when I am just going between two varieties of the Solid Gold food since they share some of the same ingredients anyway and my cats do well on so many of them. In that case I do the switch over just a day or two. If I was switching to a totally new brand of food I would do it slowly over several days.

The cat may have other issues going on as well. Mine has acid reflux (just like people get I guess). I have to give him Pepcid AC (the tablets for people) cut into quarters. I give him one quarter of the tablet once or twice per day. Cat grass can help. They generally don’t throw it up like they do if they eat houseplants. Cat grass is the same thing as wheat grass and can be purchased in the produce section of the grocery store in little pots where it grows. It is really cheap and they love it! If you kitty has a sensitive stomach it might be helpful. Does she throw up all the time or just when you switch to a new food? My tabby boy has food intolerance, acid indigestion and constipation all together. He needs the right food as well as an acid controller like Pepcid.

This cat food really seems to be superior!

I hope it works for your girl!

    Hi Jessica,
So nice to read another cat post again! The topic digestion is a major thing, also with my cats. It is not that they are throwing up the food – someone does sometimes, but very rarely. My major problem is that one cat has poop like little stones and another one runny like yoghurt. It is hard to arrange that they eat their own special food and not the exact opposite one to what their problem is.
In your post I see many recommendations to special foods for cats which I have never seen in the pet shops where I go to get mine. Is it US-special?

Hello again Heidi, nice to see you!
Solid Gold is an American company but you can order it from Amazon so I would assume you could get it over there too. You are in Germany right? Is there a German Amazon? I think there is.

I do not know if it is carried in local stores. It is hard to find even here so I doubt it!

You should read this post I did. It sounds like the problem my boy had. The Miralax and non-CBD cannabis both work for him. The Canna-Pet may help both of your cats with digestive problems. Here is the link: https://thrivingcat.com/treating-cat-constipation-at-home

I really appreciate your post. We have 6 cats in my house – 3 of which have sensitive stomachs. We have tried several different brands of food to no avail. They all check out fine at the vet, but are just super sensitive. I will check into the winged tiger food to see if that might finally be the right solution for them.

      Hello Stacy,

That is how it was with my boy. He always checked out fine with the vet but I know there is a problem. Winged Tiger and the other Solid Gold varieties like Fit As A Fiddle are the best I have found and he does so well on them! I would not recommend it if I did not feed it to my own cats and believe in it.

I really hope it works for your cats too!

Hi, Jessica. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one cleaning up throw up every day. My 6-year old “baby,” Samson, is so fat and constantly throwing up. I have tried all sorts of sensitive, grain-free options, but I have trouble feeding him separately and my other cats don’t like the same food. They tend to be pretty picky, which I guess isn’t unusual for cats. The price on these foods is unfortunately so high compared to the cheaper stuff. It makes sense that you’re paying for quality, but not all the expensive brands work well so I’ve been doing a lot of shopping around. If this food even cuts the vomiting in half I’d feel like I did something for my little guy. Hearing that your cat stopped throwing up altogether is so hopeful. I appreciate the recommendation so I don’t waste money trying different options that don’t work. Thank you!

      Hi Jaime,
Please check out this post I wrote on cat vomiting treatments. https://thrivingcat.com/remedy-for-cat-vomiting
The food is amazing and the best I have found but for my boy, he still needs some treatment to fix his acid indigestion. The food solves his food sensitivities and diarrhea but he still needs Pepcid AC. The good news is Pepcid AC is very affordable and does not require a prescription. His veterinarians have all approved it also.

I just don’t want you to buy the food and be disappointed if your cat still throws up some! I still completely recommend Solid Gold brand cat food however. That will never change! I believe it is healthy, more affordable and has much higher quality ingredients than many brands. It is also the food that works best for all my cats.

      Thanks,
      Jessica
