Solid Gold Indigo Moon Cat Food Reviews

Nowadays it is more common to see a huge variety of cat food brands and many claim to be healthy. It can be daunting to choose a food when faced with a wall of colorful bags all claiming they contain a superior product! How do you know what you are really getting and what to believe? If you are interested in a superior quality cat food, read on for my experience with Solid Gold food and summary of Solid Gold Indigo Moon cat food reviews.

8 Reasons I Choose Solid Gold

With so many brands to choose from why do I choose Solid Gold Indigo Moon cat food?

I have found Solid Gold cat foods  are superior to other brands for these reasons:

1.  Solid Gold offers very high quality foods. They have 20 superfoods in every variety such as: blueberries, broccoli, cranberries, kelp, salmon and olive oil.

2.  Solid Gold offers a great variety of cat foods for different needs such as kitten, senior, grain free, low fat and unique proteins such as duck, rabbit and lamb in case your cat is picky or has food allergies or sensitivities.

3. Solid Gold is one of very few foods that works for my orange tabby boy who has food intolerances which cause diarrhea. My cats have eaten Indigo Moon as well as Fit as A Fiddle and Katz-N-Flocken varieties successfully.

Here is my experience with cat food intolerance and some information on allergies vs. intolerance in cats.

Indigo Moon is made with chicken. Fit as a Fiddle is made with Alaskan pollock and Katz-N-Flocken is made with lamb.

4. Many varieties of Solid Gold such as Indigo Moon and Fit as a Fiddle are also grain  or gluten free. Katz-N-Flocken is made with brown rice which should be healthier than standard fillers such as corn found in other foods.

5. Solid Gold food have no meat by-product-meal !! This is the ground up parts of sick and dead animals that are used in most pet food.

6. Solid Gold food all have probiotics, vitamins and minerals.

7. All three of my cats LOVE it.

8. More cost effective for a quality product. High quality cat foods can be very expensive. Why not get a high quality food at a bit more reasonable price?

What do Reviewers say about Solid Gold Cat Food and the Indigo Moon Variety?

If you go on Amazon.com you can see how highly pet owners regard Solid Gold Indigo Moon and their other varieties of cat food.

Solid Gold Indigo Moon ratings on Amazon have a 4.6 out of 5 star average over 84 reviews. There are smaller numbers of reviews for the 6 and 3 pound bags but those also average 4.6 and 4.8 out of 5 stars respectively! This is a great average. Cats are such individualistic animals with a wide variety of needs and tastes so to get such high ratings is impressive.

Ratings:

4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon for 12 pound bag.

4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon for 6 pound bag.

4.8 out of 5 stars on Amazon for 3 pound bag.

Reviews:

Great majority of positive reviews: Every review I read that discussed what the cats thought of the food said they loved it! This is just about unheard of in cat food. Most all of the reviews are glowing and say things like the food worked for their picky cat, it helped their sick cat gain weight and controlled weight of fat cats, it made their coats shiny, it worked for cats with food allergies and many said their cats liked it so much they acted like it was kitty crack. Owners also said it cut down on throwing up and hairballs. One said it worked much better than the previously prescribed high fiber food and his 19 year old cat started gaining weight after getting too thin.

One person out of the reviews I read said “This food saved my cat’s life!” when she was withering away due to food allergies and another said it is “Miracle Cat Food for Digestive Troubles”. Many reviewers thought it was high quality and the best they had found after trying many varieties of food. Many also say it is a food that all their cats like and works for multiple cats at once. One person said their cats were “unanimously in love” with it.

The few negative reviews: There are a few reviews that said it costs too much and some that said it gave their cat diarrhea. This happened with most every food we tried for my boy with food intolerance. This was the one that finally worked. Cats are often allergic (or intolerant) to certain ingredients like proteins. If that is the case you may need to try a food with a different protein. The rabbit didn’t work for my cat but the other foods by Solid Gold based on chicken, Pollock and lamb do! So I would not get discouraged by reviews that say a few cats didn’t do well on this. Just like people, cats are unique and some need a different protein base than others. Read about cat food allergies vs. intolerance here.

Solid Gold Variety for Sensitive Stomachs

Solid Gold foods are wonderful but I recently tried another variety of their food which I am very excited about. Winged Tiger is the variety I would recommend above all others if your cat has an especially sensitive stomach. It was the first and only food my boy could switch over to right away without digestive problems. It was amazing! It has pumpkin which is good for cat’s digestion. It is made with quail also. Try it here! Solid Gold Winged Tiger food for sensitive stomach.

Solid Gold History, Create a Better Dog Food.

Solid Gold also makes a variety of formulas for senior cats, kittens, grain free, high protein and other formulas. They have an awesome line of dog foods. It was the search for better food for her Great Danes that led the founder of Solid Gold to create the company over 40 years ago. She went to Europe and saw European dogs lived longer than American dogs. She discovered they ate a meat centered diet while in the U.S. dogs were fed a grain based diet. She wanted to give her dogs a better, longer life so she created Solid Gold.

If you are debating which cat food to try or want to find a healthier food, you can trust the Solid Gold Indigo Moon cat food reviews and try a bag. Or you can try another Solid Gold option.

Sounds like a really high quality cat food. I remember growing up we always fed our cats meow mix or a similar type of dry food and our cats always had issues with their stomachs. Looking back, they probably would have benefited from a more natural, healthy food like Solid Gold Indigo Moon. But I’m not sure there where as many options back then for nicer pet foods? Anyway, thanks for the info, I had never heard of it before but it sounds like a great product. Gorgeous pics by the way of the kitties!

      Hello Will,
Yes, when I was a kid we fed our cat those foods too. I wish we had a food like this, although he also ate lots of wild meat that he caught himself. Despite this healthier diet and not eating only dry food, he still developed kidney failure. This is very common especially for male cats. Luckily my cats are good about drinking water but we still feed them wet food also to help them get more moisture and also as a vehicle for their supplements. Solid Gold was started in the 1970’s but it started as a dog food brand then. I do not know when they started making cat food. I did not know about it until a few years ago when we were trying different foods for my boy who has food intolorances. This was one of a few foods that work for him, but also all three of my cats LOVE it.

Thanks, those are my two boys in the windowsill.

Oh nice! You know, I’ve been looking for a good cat food for my cat. She’s so picky and stopped eating the one I used to get her (Simply Nourish.). I’m going to bookmark this page and try it when I need to buy her some more cat food. Do you have any suggestions for kitty litter?

    Thanks for sharing!

      Hello Marlinda,
Yes, I do have a recommendation for cat litter. It is lightweight (unlike clay), naturally antibacterial, low dust, flushable, all natural and more. You can see it here in my post here:

Is this all dry food or do they also sell wet food? My cat is 16 and doesn’t seem able to tolerate dry food any longer – whenever she eats it, she throws up. This at least is true for the “gentle” purina and the Rachel Ray food. Perhaps with a higher quality dry she might keep it down.

      Hello Penelope,

Solid Gold also makes wet foods. I see they get really good reviews, just like the dry food. I would definitely give it a try. If your cat prefers wet anyway and you can give her wet then that is probably better for her anyway just so she gets more moisture like a natural diet. My cats didn’t like the Rachel Ray cat food either. I also feed my cats Authority Brand wet food and Purina Pro Plan wet food.

This was an excellent and balanced review of a high quality cat food. I have a cat who is extremely fussy . My hubby bought a big bag 5kg of dry food the other day and he does not like it at all. He looks at the bowl in disgust, then looks at us with his big green eyes pleading for an alternative. This may be something I will have to try .
Are they your gorgeous cats in the image at the top of the page. I cannot get Ace to eat any fresh meats such as chicken or fish or even any red meat. When he kills something such as a rat he just takes the head off and leaves the body untouched. I am definitely going to give Solid Gold Indigo Moon a try,

      Hello Judy,
Yes, those are my two handsome boys in the picture! The orange tabby is my boy with the sensitive stomach. He is the reason we found Solid Gold food in the first place. All of my cats love it though and never seem to grow tired of it even after years. I have tried many types of food since I have had cats all my life. I honestly can say this is the best food I have found. It is the only dry food I feed my cats. They normally eat Fit as a Fiddle for weight control but they also enjoy the Indigo Moon and Winged Tiger varieties as well.

There are small 3 pound bags available as well as larger bags of 6 and 12 pounds. The 12 pound bags have a zip lock seal which is very handy to keep the food fresh and keep it in the bag and away from prying kitty paws and noses!

I hope you find a food your kitty loves.

Hi Jessica, thank you for this very thorough and very informative review. This reminded of our pussy cat Tommy who passed away a fews ago. He loved his food but when we changed his diet because of health issues he did not like it. My mother in law has been looking a for a good cat for for her Russian Blue and sure she’ll be interested in having a look at this one. Thank you very much.

      Hello Brian,

I am sorry you lost your kitty. It is hard to find good food that is healthy, affordable and that cats like.

One of my cats is a French Chartreux which has the same color fur as the Russian Blue. We thought she was a Russian Blue at first. She might be a mix. She loves this food as do our tabby boy and Norwegian Forest Cat.

      Thank you!

This sounds like a nutrient dense healthy meal for my little fluffy one. She has gotten a little heavy lately and I’m concerned that her diet isn’t right.

Do you think Solid Gold Indigo Moon will help with weight control?

    Thanks again for this review.

      Hello Vince,

All of the Solid Gold brand foods have great ingredients and nutrition. For weight control however, I would get their “Fit as a Fiddle” variety. That is the food that all of my cats eat daily now. They love it and it is really healthy for them. It is grain free and low fat. Here is my review of it in the context of grain free foods:
      https://thrivingcat.com/what-is-the-best-grain-free-cat-food

You might also try putting the dry food in a puzzle feeder. This is something I have been trying recently for my cats and it seems to be helping. They tend to chow down and this makes them eat more slowly and also work a bit (tiny bit) more for their food. If you only have one cat it is much easier to control how much they eat but with three it is hard! If you want to check out some unique ones I use, here is another post I did: https://thrivingcat.com/cat-food-puzzle-feeder

Thank you for stopping by! Let me know if you get Solid Gold food and what you and your cat think!

Really well written, and sounds like great products that you’ve affiliated your brand with. I really in particular like how you handled the reviews given about the products, both the positive and the negative, explaining the difficulties that can be faced as every cat is different, just as every person can be different as far as their needs, intolerances, allergies.

      Thanks Steven,
I used to just focus on the positive but it is more helpful for the reader to see all aspects. The pros can actually mean more when shown with the cons! I only recommend products I actually use and believe in. This is the brand of cat food my 4 cats eat every day now.

    Jessica,
It’s impressive how many benefits the Solid Gold Indigo Moon cat food has! I liked the review and thought it was interesting how you mentioned how most cats have various allergies to proteins and different things. My wife is trying to convince me to get a cat right now so if I cave, I’m going to have to try this brand first haha 🙂
I’ve never considered buying pet food online before in the past but I think I’d definitely do that in the future as well.

      Hello Thomas,
I highly recommend buying cat food online since it is much more affordable. Solid Gold is truly my #1 brand.

I hope you cave! My husband (a big tough US Marine is now a devoted kitty daddy and even my father-in-law who is a mountain man, bear hunting guide and bush pilot talks about his “Grand Kitties” with affection! It is pretty funny.

What a brilliant review about solid gold indigo moon cat food. I really enjoyed reading the review. I have one question though about this food. What benefits and nutrients do cats get from eating this types of food? Thanks in advance for the answer.

These sounds like some solid options for cats! We recently lost our cat, unfortunately, but he was quite picky about his food and it would take a very specific food to make him happy, heh. So I know the struggle with this! Interesting that rabbit didn’t work, but quail did. I guess it really is just trial and error to find the right food, huh?

      Hello,

I am sorry you lost your cat! That is so sad.

Yes, it is hard to figure out what will work for our boy. He seems fine with salmon and trout but tuna seems to make him sick. Unfortunately tuna is in many cat foods.

This was very informative and I loved the comparison aspect. I know I would’ve liked to read something this honest when it came to researching foods for my dog. Unfortunately, regardless of my research and such I was forced to do some trial and error in combination with word of mouth. This seems like a great choice for cat owners looking for real quality.

I am so glad I found your post.  Our cat is a male and he is a little over two years old.  Well, wouldn’t you know it, our cat seems to have picked up a stray kitten and now that little guy is hanging out in our yard all the time.  I didn’t realize that cats would take care of a stray, but that is beside the point.

Anyway, my wife and kids have been after me to feed the stray cat and of course, I have finally relented.  So, we have been trying to find kitten food that this little kitten will eat (we don’t know the gender).  Anyway, we have tried a couple of different brands and this kitten isn’t really interested.  Now I am going to give Solid Gold a try and see if he will indulge in this cat food.

I know you said Solid Gold makes kitten food, is there just one formula for kittens?  I really hope this works out, but it sounds like a winner from a taste perspective, so we will give it a shot.  Thanks again, this is just what I have been looking for.

      Hello Steve,

I am glad this review was useful for you. There is one variety for kittens specifically called Touch of Heaven with Chicken. Some of the varieties are made for all stages of a cat’s life including kittens. These are called Nature’s Harmony with Chicken, Indigo Moon with Chicken, Katz-N-Flocken with Lamb and Indigo Moon with Alaskan Pollock. The other varieties are made for adult cats only or senior cats.

I am glad you asked about this since I have not used the kitten food and did not notice there were other varieties that could be used for kittens!

I hope it works well for your stray kitty!
